RCS Awareness (NSW) - Respirable Crystalline Silica Awareness (NSW)

This Respirable Crystalline Silica Awareness course provides information on crystalline silica exposure in the workplace and what methods can be used to minimise exposure risks. Learners will understand and recognise exposure risks, long-term impacts of silica dust exposure and the responsibilities employers and workers have to manage the risk.

This course is developed for any worker involved in processing of a crystalline silica substance (CSS) that is high risk or a worker who is at risk of exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) because of that processing.

This course is approved under the Safe Work NSW training requirements.

Delivery Mode

This course is delivered in an eLearning format. Student will receive a certificate upon completion.

If you have more than one student you'd like to enrol in this course, please contact Jessica@oranaskillscentre.com

  • Identify Crystalline Silica Containing Products: Understand what products contain crystalline silica and how to recognise them in your workplace.

  • Understand Relevant Legislation, Guidelines, and Standards: Gain insights into the legal framework that governs the use of crystalline silica and the standards that must be adhered to ensure compliance.

  • Explore Consequences, Hazards, and Health Risks: Discover the serious health risks associated with exposure to respirable crystalline silica, including potential long-term consequences.

  • Review Exposure Standards: Familiarise yourself with the established exposure standards to ensure safe working conditions.

  • Utilise Safety Data Sheets (SDS): Learn how to interpret and use Safety Data Sheets to assess risks and implement appropriate safety measures.

  • Apply the Hierarchy of Controls: Understand the hierarchy of controls to mitigate risks, emphasising the importance of prioritising elimination and substitution over other methods.

  • Implement Systems for Prevention of Exposure: Explore effective systems and practices for preventing exposure to respirable crystalline silica in the workplace.

  • Conduct Risk Assessments and Hazard Prevention: Develop skills to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement hazard prevention strategies tailored to your specific work environment.
